The movement of the boat that carried Nolan Wells to Horn Island over the 4th of July weekend.

>> The sheriff’s office asked the public for something specific, video or images of an alleged altercation on Horn Island.

That request is on the record.

What it means is that investigators had heard about a fight and did not have it on film.

What came back is the part nobody followed up on.

The one video everyone called the fight, the pH๏τographer who sH๏τ it says it does not show a fight at all per TMZ.

The pH๏τographer’s video doesn’t show a fight, but there is another piece of footage and it has a voice on it.

At a press conference, Ben Crump, the Wells family attorney, pointed to video of an alleged argument on the island.

He said Nolan could be heard saying, “Give me my freaking phone.

What are you freaking doing?”

Per Crump, multiple people identified the voice as Nolan’s.

That’s account one.

A young man’s voice caught on someone’s phone minutes before he disappeared.

Now, here’s where it gets complicated.

On July 13th, Triston Shepherd told ABC News something direct.

He said it was him yelling in that video, not Nolan Wells, him.

So, we have two people, one voice.

The family’s attorney says it’s Nolan.

A friend on the trip says it’s him.

Both are looking at the same recording.

If the voice is Nolan’s, then the video places him in a specific moment, an argument heated over a phone.

That would put him in conflict with someone in the hours before he vanished.

It would give investigators a scene.

If the voice is Shepherd’s, the video shows something else entirely.

It shows a friend yelling and Nolan not visible in that moment at all.

The argument might have nothing to do with him.

Here’s what we know about Shepherd’s claim.

He made it on the record to a national outlet.

That is a public statement.

It is not a private denial, and no one has charged him with anything.

The sheriff’s office, per NewsNation, has not confirmed a fight even happened.

Not that it didn’t, just that they haven’t confirmed it.

And they asked the public for video of an alleged altercation.

Their word, alleged.

So, the official position is, we heard about a fight, we’re looking for footage of it.

The family’s position is, here’s footage with Nolan’s voice.

The friend’s position is, that’s my voice, not his.

Three ways to read the same moment.

Now, think about what the sheriff’s request actually tells us.
